Finding Light within the Darkness
by Hannah Owulade
What is life?
Why am I living it?
Why is it when I look up and down and side to side I see suffering
What is around me?
I close my eyes to try to hear the breeze the wind but can only hear the cries of the suffering
I open my eyes to see clear, to see clearly, but can’t see the truth
Why are you hiding?
Behind the masks, behind the phones, far beyond the shadows lies a hidden person, a person who later will take their last breath and ask, is it over?
My understanding of life has no definition
Life is hard
Life is confusing
But life can be happy
Once we trust ourselves and understand that life can be bright and meaningful
We will learn to muster the light within that darkness of life
Tell Me
by Jocelyn McCoy
Tell Me?
Live Long, I was wrong. I could not see my mistakes until they had their effect. Of course the perfect life, the perfecting of me. Not perfect as you see, the turns and troubles that happen in life all come down to one thing that is family. Life is known as a fantasy, they say you only live once. But that is just how it seems. Is that a bad thing or a good thing? You tell me.
Waves
People,
The people around us all wear a mask, a mask so you can't see behind the surface of the force they hold against you, like a kid in a cheap costume on Halloween. Whether the mask holds secrets, tightness, or emptiness. There is always a sprawling whirl hole at the end inside of a person, some let it pile up and become huge waves others let it out in portions. Question is which way is more successful?
Death
Defiance, the definition of what? Of happiness that none of us feel or the depression we all feel. The chambers were all trapped in or the freedom we obtained. The life we live or the death we will all pass. All obstacles we have to go through, whether we like or love it. We're stuck.
Pleasure
The wishing of a dead man is what we listen, listen and have no comment. He rotes in tortured wood, but yet we still obey him? Why? This is when it's supposed to end, all of it. The hatred, the wallow, the depression we dragged as he walked as light as air. We don't deserve to go through it without him.
The life
The banana hangs from the tree where most of our heads belong, except they don´t scream, they sit in silence and wait to be picked like teenagers in an orphanage. The silence in their forests is the loquacious murmuring in the white house. The animals that exist are the people with no equal rights. The tumultuous water that goes down the river, is the tears our people shed everyday.
Gertie Meets Rocky
by Kyle Lear, a 6th Grade Student in Mrs. Smithmyer's Autistic Support Classroom
Gertie was a giraffe. ‘’Hi’’ Rocky said to Gertie. ‘’Oh, hi Rocky’’ says Gertie. Rocky’s hangout is Pax. ‘’You can’t meet Pax’’ Gertie said. ‘’Hangout with me’’ and Gertie is meeting Rocky. ‘’What’s the ruckus’’ Franny said. ‘’Yeah’’ Stinky said. Franny and Stinky went to Burger King. ‘’I’m hungry’’ says Rocky. And Rocky goes to Chick-fil-a. ‘’Hi Lacey’’ said Gertie. The end.

A long time ago
There was once a school just like any other except for its inhabitants. The school was called Zoo Phoenix Academy where creatures of all sorts come to learn. Some of the students are animals, others can be strange, this school was peaceful. Other days the school was not so calm like on the day the school was attacked. We begin on a casual day at Zoo Phoenix Academy when a strange new student comes to school. They were tall and wore long capes and didn’t speak to anyone. Some kids whispered as they passed through saying things like, ‘’ Who's the new kid?’’ and ‘’Who does he think he is a big shot?’’ Some snickered, others were intimidated and the person made their way to the principal's office. There they met the principal, Arozar, who was a human body with a blobfish head. Beside him was the principal's assistant, Carlos, a giant lion who was grading papers. The person spoke. ‘’I am Zarichan. My family once owned this land. How dare you build a top of my great land! I curse you till the ends of time that all newcomers and existing students will feel the pain I had once felt.‘’ In a blink of an eye he vanished and all of a sudden students started yelling ‘’Vampires!!’’ They were coming for the school. As Carlos was exiting his office to get the students somewhere safe, he stepped on a piece of parchment and on this parchment was a strange word written in a different language. الحقيقة تكمن بينتها He pauses before hearing another scream he shakes his head, puts the parchment on his desk and bolts out the door .
Not Giving Up

I was in the army for a long time then I quit. It was hard being away from my family for all these years. I really hope for some good news when I get home. When I got home I found out my wife had died. I was upset. Luckily, I had my kids to watch over me.
The next couple of weeks were hard but it was also good. My wife had left me a house in Miami that I didn’t know about. I went to check it out. There was a bag on the table. I went to open it, and it had $250,000,000 in it. My wife was a bank robber and the truth was she died from being shot by her employers she tried to fire without paying them. I called my daughter, Peace, and she was going to help me. I gave $200,000,000 to orphans. I kept the other $50,000,000 so I could find who killed my wife.
I had the best detective on the job, my son Ni’Klaus. He found his mother wasn’t working alone. I decided to help. It took us years and we still haven’t found anything. Until now. I found out Peace was the leader of the operation from one of her employers. She killed my wife, Saint. Peace said she had no choice but to fake Saint’s death and that she pinned the operation on Saint. Peace tried to escape but I caught her. She finally told me where my wife Saint was. I went to the house in Miami and there was a cellar and there she was, beaten and almost dead. I got Saint out of there but she was unconscious. I rushed her to the hospital. The doctors saved her just in time. But she left and went into hiding for good and she left me a note. It said “I never stopped loving you and it was hard when you were gone. I was a bad person. But I was undercover for the cops and Klaus knew about it. I’m sorry that I never wrote to you after all those years but hours turned into days, days into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years so I’m sorry. I love you. Love Saint.” I was not okay with what was happening so I took the last $2,000,000 and went on a journey to find my wife and all I knew was I wasn’t giving up.
